About the Episode

Before you begin your rhythm of welcoming the Sabbath, allow me a moment to pray over you. May this prayer and blessing be an acknowledgment of the good and loving work you are doing in the various roles you have the responsibility to steward throughout the week. Let it be a reminder that you are not alone in this desire to live counter-culturally. And may it encourage you to continue seeking to rest with Jesus.

When we arrive at the end of the workweek, there is a beautiful opportunity to welcome the Sabbath and the rest it brings for ourselves and our family. And while it is a beautiful opportunity, it does not come by without intention. I see you and the work you do to usher in this day of rest. You make sure the home is clean, the meals are prepped, and the activities you’ll do together as a family planned. You work with purpose the other six days in anticipation of the seventh.

Before you begin your rhythm of Sabbath welcome, the next few minutes are for you. It is an acknowledgement of the good and loving work you are doing in the various roles you have the responsibility to steward throughout the week. It is a reminder that you are not alone in this desire to live counter-culturally. And it is an encouragement to continue seeking to rest with Jesus. So stop what you’re doing. Close your eyes and listen to this, my prayer of blessing over you.

Jesus, may the tired mom listening say goodbye to the workweek without fear.

Allow, no anxious thought, no shameful voice, no demanding reminder, to creep over into this boundary of rest.

May she say hello to the Sabbath with gladness. Cultivate in her heart a deep joy, bring a stabilizing peace to her being.

Establish truth in the corners of her mind so that she may experience true rest with you.

Bless the work that she has already completed this week.

Bless the rest that she is about to enjoy.

Bless the reconnection she will experience with you and with others.

You have created her to reflect your image. You have titled her an image-bearer. May she not miss the sacredness of the role she fulfills as she actively chooses to rest.

Now What?

Go with peace into your day of rest. Shabbat shalom.
